Meet Aliza

Aliza Sherman is a Web and social mobile pioneer, an international keynote speaker, author of nine books, and a digital strategist since 1992.

Aliza provides high-level, strategic digital consulting to companies and nonprofit organizations, often with a focus on the women’s market and cause-related efforts.

She speaks and writes about the Internet, social media, mobile marketing, and the future of tech. She was recently invited to speak about social, mobile and crowdsourcing in Frankfurt, Germany and in Yekaterinburg and Perm, Russia.

Aliza is well known for her expertise on the topic of women’s technology and business issues.

Her latest books are The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Crowdsourcing and Mom, Incorporated.

Aliza Sherman is a Web pioneer who has worked as a digital strategist since 1992. She speaks around the world and writes about the Internet, social media, mobile marketing and new technologies, platforms, and apps. She is also known for her focus on women’s technology and business issues and specializes in making tech more accessible to humans.

And yes, she has been known to wear a pink tiara and boa at conferences!

In 1992, she created The Women’s List, an email community and networking platform for women to share their resumes and strengthen business relationships. She built some of the first online forums for domestic violence awareness and breast cancer awareness on early BBSs and commercial online services. She also consulted clients such as WomenSpace – a female health company – to incorporate online marketing into their communications, marketing and market research efforts.

In 1995, Newsweek named her one of the “Top People Who Matter Most on the Internet” as founder of the first woman-owned, full-service Internet company, Cybergrrl, Inc. and the first global Internet networking organization for women, Webgrrls International.

In 2003, she started a digital consulting firm that grew into the early social media marketing agency Conversify.

In 2008, she coined the term Social Media Marketing Plan or SMMP and developed the concepts and format for these plans for companies and nonprofits to help them incorporate social media into their traditional marketing plans. She presented her ideas about SMMPs at Web 2.0 Expo in 2010. She also helped pioneer Social Media Calendars (SMCs) and published early analysis about the elements of SMCs: Why You Should Have a Social Media Calendar and Elements of a Social Media Calendar.

In 2010, she launched a strategic digital and mobile consultancy, Mediaegg, and produced several mobile apps including Girls an Be Anything Paper Dolls and the Drinkulator.

Aliza’s books include The Everything Blogging Book, Streetwise EcommercePowerTools for Women in Business, and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Crowdsourcing. Her 9th book is Mom, Incorporated and was co-written with Danielle Smith.

In addition to publishing nine books, Aliza has produced content for both public radio and public television including filing stories for “Marketplace” and has been recognized for her writing and blogging by Fast Company who listed her as one of the “Most Powerful Women in Technology” in 2009. She has also contributed to Web Worker Daily and Mashable.
